#17 MP5 - Staging

Started to create assets to help tell my MP5's story. Created Bank Vault Door, deposit boxes, Money cart, stacks of cash, light cages (for alarm lights) and flooring. Most of the textures are finished using mostly Marmosets' tiling premade textures. Although I did have to create the money textures in Substance as well and intended on revising the money cart textures a bit in substance as well. Assembling everything and starting to think about how I want to arrange my renders. I am thinking of slow panning shots that will be one after another with the alarm lights flashing giving it a bright red glow. Maybe an alarm sounding off in the background as well to give the effect of it heist being in progress. My goal is to wrap this one up by the end of the week!

#16 MP5 - Textures DONE(ish)!

Finishing up the textures for the MP5. This was quite the journey. I have one last pass I want to do on this before it's over. But have also moved in to Marmoset, starting to layout the assets to tell the story.

#15 MP5 - Metal Texture Updates

It has been a little while since I have posted about my personal project. It is slow moving but progressing none the less. I have been getting some great feedback and super appreciate all the assistance along the way!

Since my last post I have dug in deep on the metal texture, adding logos/indents, roughness, color variation and dings (plus some). I have made a few small tweaks to the wood as well. One of the biggest things I have done for this last WIP is added some imperfections to the mesh and texture surface. Utilizing a "wobble map" (not sure if that is an official term haha), and moving vertices to give it that well used look.

My next steps will be to add in some of the oils from use as well as dust/dirt build up in the abandoned areas of use. I am excited to hear if anyone has some feedback for me, as I can sense my blinders setting in from looking at it a bit too long.

#14 MP5 - Wood Texture Update

Finishing up the wood texture. This texture has gone through many different rounds of feedback and revisions. I learned a ton about texturing wood and how wood attachments are processed. Happy to store this knowledge in my mind. Now onto the rest of the MP5.

#13 MP5 - Wood Texturing

A little WIP shot. I have been chipping away at these textures. Got some great feedback about the wood last week. Trying to infuse a bit more life into the wood design compared to my prior attempt. Still have some work to do on the wood, but may just let it be for now then circle back later on.

#12 MP5 - Retopo DONE!

Finishing up the UVs and retopo for the MP5. I have a few small tweaks and edits to finish off before moving on to the baking process. But here it is! My main retopo pass is complete at 81k tris. Textture are still temporary. Will start those from scratch in the next few days.

#11 MP5 - More Retopo

It has been a busy week! Haven't had nearly enough time to my MP5 project. But slowly chipping away. Testing out the retopo baking as I go to make sure I have a quality back with each item I retopo and unwrap. I intend to be texturing this by the end of the weekend. Also the textures are just smart materials I tossed on them to get an idea of how everything reads. Will start all the textures from scratch once I have finished up the retopo.

I have forgotten to update my blog over the last few days. Working on the retopo for the MP5. Using a combination of modeling in Blender and Retopoflow (add-on in Blender). Hope to finish it up in the next 2 days to then move on to the next phase.

#9 MP5 - Finished with HP Mesh

Finishing up the HP mesh for the MP5. Did the primary modeling in Plasticity, utilizing Zbrush to polish up the mesh as needed and optimizing the topology to something more managable for the Retopo phase (in Blender). Excited to move on to the next phase of this project.

#8 MP5 - HP Mesh

Finished up the Muzzle, forearm and barrels today. I am pretty happy about how the remaining pieces came together. Over the next couple of days I will finish up the HP process with Zbrush, adding subtle details, smoothing and finishing it off with a strap.
